Opt-Out Providers

Section 1802 of the Social Security Act, as amended by '4507 of the BBA of 1997, permits a physician or practitioner to "opt out" of Medicare and enter into private contracts with Medicare beneficiaries if specific requirements are met.

All Medicare managed care plans in the servicing area are to be notified of all physicians and practitioners who have opted out of Medicare.
