Background:

Medicare covers home medical equipment. Claims for these items fall into different groups such as Durable Medical Equipment (DME), Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies (DMEPOS). They are separated from Medicare Part B claims and processed through one of the four Medicare contractors in the United States for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) – the federal government agency that oversees the Medicare program.
